OHS Band places an impressive Second at first marching competition  On Saturday, October 15th, the Oviedo High School Marching Lion Band and Colorguard, “The Pride of Oviedo” competed in the Timber Creek Marching Arts Festival at Timber Creek High School in Orlando. The band finished in second place overall, with a score of 83.9, and was also awarded a trophy for best general effect in division 5A. This was an excellent first showing for the Marching Lions, and paves the way for a very active and challenging competition season. Each Tuesday and Thursday evening, drivers passing the high school along State Road 426 will see the band and colorguard on the field perfecting their 2011 field show entitled “White Swan, Darkness Within” which features excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Stravinski’s Firebird Suite. The captivating music and marching drill, coupled with the Oviedo Colorguard’s dynamic performances and various costume changes convey a dramatic story that the audience is sure to enjoy.
The band’s competition schedule will continue on October 22nd at the University Classic Marching Festival. The circuit concludes with the Bands of America Championships in Atlanta, Georgia on October 29th, as the Marching Lions represent Oviedo and all of Central Florida in one of the nation’s top-tier band competitions.
In addition, the band will continue to perform at O.H.S. varsity football games throughout the fall, and will conclude their marching season at the Citrus Bowl in downtown Orlando for their annual FBA Marching Assessment. Follow-up information and details on these activities will be provided as events happen. |
O.H.S Band marches to University Invitational; takes second place On Saturday, October 22nd, the Oviedo High School Marching Lion Band and Colorguard, “The Pride of Oviedo” competed in the University Invitational Marching Competition at University High School in Orlando. The band finished in second place overall, with a score of 86.3, and was also awarded two trophies for best music and best visual in division 5A. This was Oviedo’s second competition for the 2011 season, and their second 2nd-place finish in as many weekends following their performance at the Timber Creek Marching Festival at Timber Creek High School on October 15th.
The band and colorguard have spent countless hours on the O.H.S. football field perfecting their 2011 field show entitled “White Swan, Darkness Within” which features excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Stravinski’s Firebird Suite.
